Bylaw Enforcement - Best Practices for Responding to Bylaw Complaints PowerPoint Presentation
On October 24, 2019, BC Ombudsperson Jay Chalke will be presenting a Special Planning Committee Workshop entitled “Best Practices in Bylaw Enforcement”. In this session, Mr. Chalke, who will be joined by Rachel Warren (Manager of Prevention Initiatives, Office of the Ombudsperson), will cover some of the key principles for local governments to ensure their bylaw enforcement practices are transparent, reasonable and fair.
The session will include:
- The role of the BC Ombudsperson
- Administrative fairness in the local government context
- The role of Council
- Dealing with bylaw complaints
- Conducting bylaw investigations and taking enforcement measures
- Appeals of enforcement decisions
The 90 minute presentation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a 30 minute question period.
